Harry Potter grew up to become one of the most loved stories ever across the world. The Harry Potter film series are among the top grossing films of all times. But, the films wouldn’t have been same if Maggie Smith hadn’t portrayed her character of Minerva McGonagall with such brilliance that made her one of the best and most loved fictional characters ever.

Born on 28th December 1934, Maggie Smith is England’s one of the most recognized actresses and has done over 60 films and TV series. She made her debut as one of the party guests in Child in the House (1956). She has been nominated for Oscar 6 times and won twice, for The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (1969) and California Suite (1978).

She is also a breast cancer survivor. Smith was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 1970 New Year Honors and was raised to Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in the 1990 New Year Honors for services to the performing arts.
